Introducing the Latest elecConnect™ Plug & Play Adaptors

We’ve  just expanded the elecConnect™ range, and it’s a game-changer for Australian towers. The new PP7-12 and PP12-12 adaptors join the original PP7-7 to complete the most versatile plug-and-play connection system on the market.

What’s New in the elecConnect Adaptor Range?

The elecConnect range now includes three configurations to match different vehicle and trailer setups:

  • PP7-7: 7-pin flat vehicle socket to 7-pin flat trailer plug (original model)
  • PP7-12: 7-pin flat vehicle socket to 12-pin flat trailer plug (new)
  • PP12-12: 12-pin flat vehicle socket to 12-pin flat trailer plug (new)

Each adaptor comes with a 1.2-metre elecConnect™ Leader cable, giving you enough length to connect comfortably between your vehicle’s trailer socket and the Elecbrakes trailer-mounted controller without stretching or excess cable cluttering your setup.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

What You’ll Need Before You Start

Installing an elecConnect adaptor requires no special tools or technical knowledge. Here’s what comes in the box:

  • elecConnect adaptor (PP7-7, PP7-12 or PP12-12)
  • 1.2m elecConnect leader cable
  • Cable tie
  • Installation instructions

The included cable tie can secure the Leader cable to your trailer cable for added pull-out resistance (Elecbrakes recommends this for a more secure connection).

Quick Setup Tips for a Secure Connection

Identify Your Vehicle Socket Configuration

Check whether your vehicle has a 7-pin or 12-pin flat trailer socket.  For example, if your vehicle has 7 pins and your trailer has 12, you’ll need the PP7-12. If both have 12 pins, use the PP12-12.

Connect the Leader Cable

Plug the elecConnect Leader cable into your vehicle’s trailer socket. The connector should click into place firmly. Give it a gentle tug to ensure it’s seated properly.

Attach the Adaptor to Your Trailer

Connect the other end of the Leader cable to the elecConnect adaptor, then plug the adaptor into your trailer’s connection point.

Secure the Cables

Use cable tie to bundle the elecConnect Leader cable and your trailer cable together. This significantly increases pull-out resistance and keeps cables from dragging or snagging during travel.

Test the Connection

Before heading off, test your brake controller to confirm the connection is working properly. Check that the brake controller is paired and that brake activation is smooth and responsive.

Why elecConnect Makes Multi-Vehicle Towing Easier

Travellers enjoying the beach, with their trailer and car.

Without a plug-and-play solution, brake controllers generally need to be hardwired to each vehicle separately. The EB2 trailer-mounted brake controller solves this problem.

The elecConnect plug & play adaptors offer quick, simple installation that can be done at home in less than 10 minutes. With the sleek design, they also remove any bulky wire and adaptor setups.

At $129 RRP, each elecConnect plug and play adaptor represents a smart investment compared to custom wiring jobs that can cost hundreds of dollars per vehicle. You’re also avoiding vehicle dashboard modifications, which can affect resale value.

Final Thoughts: Smarter Connections for Smoother Towing

The expanded elecConnect range gives Australian towers more options for safe, reliable brake controller connections. The PP7-12 and PP12-12 adaptors fill crucial gaps in the market, supporting the most common vehicle-to-trailer pin configurations without requiring custom wiring or electrical knowledge.

Combined with an Elecbrakes trailer-mounted brake controller, the elecConnect adaptor helps your unit deliver consistent braking performance. The plug-and-play design means you spend less time and money on the setup and more time on the road.

All elecConnect adaptors are proudly designed and manufactured on the Central Coast of NSW, built to withstand the unique demands of Australian towing conditions.

Common Questions About Trailer Adaptors (FAQ)

Are elecConnect adaptors compatible with both 7-pin and 12-pin setups?

Yes. The elecConnect range includes three models to cover all flat-pin configurations: PP7-7 (7-pin vehicle to 7-pin trailer), PP7-12 (7-pin vehicle to 12-pin trailer), and PP12-12 (12-pin vehicle to 12-pin trailer). Choose the adaptor that matches your vehicle’s socket and trailer’s plug configuration.

Can I use these adaptors with any electric brake controller?

No. elecConnect adaptors are engineered specifically for the Elecbrakes trailer-mounted brake controllers including our EB2 and the earlier ELBC model. They’re not compatible with the  VM1 vehicle-mounted controller or other brake controller brands.

Do I need to rewire my trailer for elecConnect adaptors to work?

No rewiring needed. If you already have an EB2 brake controller or ELBC brake controller  installed on your trailer, the elecConnect adaptor simply plugs in between your vehicle socket and trailer connection. The 1.2m Leader cable provides the bridge without any cutting, splicing, or permanent modifications.

How do I know which adaptor suits my towing vehicle?

Count the pins on your vehicle’s trailer socket. If you have 7 pins on the vehicle and 12 pins on the trailer plug, you need the PP7-12. If both vehicle and trailer use 12 pins, choose the PP12-12. If both use 7 pins, the PP7-7 is your match.

Are these adaptors waterproof or weather-resistant?

The elecConnect range is fully waterproof, dustproof, and shockproof. The sealed construction uses Deutsch plug connectors that protect against mud, water immersion, and harsh Australian conditions. This makes them suitable for beach adventures, river crossings, and dusty Outback travel.

Can I use elecConnect adaptors for caravans and campers?

Yes. The elecConnect adaptors work with any trailer type including caravans, camper trailers, box trailers, boat trailers, and horse floats, as long as you’re using an EB2 or ELBC brake controller and the adaptor matches your pin configuration. The system supports trailers up to 4.5 tonnes.

How can I test that my connection is working properly?

After connecting, turn on your vehicle and check that the brake controller powers up and pairs properly. Test the brake activation by manually engaging the controller while stationary. You should see normal brake response. Before towing, do a low-speed brake test in a safe area to confirm full functionality.

What should I do if the adaptor connection feels loose or unstable?

First, ensure both ends are fully seated. You should hear or feel a click when properly connected. Cable-tie the Leader cable and trailer cable together to increase pull-out resistance (Elecbrakes recommends this for all installations). If connections still feel loose, contact Elecbrakes support on 1300 516 248 or email [email protected] for assistance. All elecConnect adaptors are covered by  Elecbrakes’ warranty.
