Free Remote Upgrade for EB2 & VM1 Customers

At Elecbrakes, our team is always working on ways to improve our products so you get the best possible performance, reliability, and safety every time you hit the road.

With that in mind, we’ve just released a new version of the Elecbrakes App alongside an over-the-air (OTA) firmware update for our EB2 and VM1 brake controllers. This update introduces enhancements to the system’s wireless communication framework.

As a result of this change, existing EBR remotes (‘V2’) will no longer be compatible with the newly upgraded EB2 & VM1 units. To make sure your setup transitions smoothly, we are launching a free remote exchange program. If you currently use a remote with your EB2 or VM1, we will upgrade your current remote to our latest V3 model, completely free of charge.

The new ‘V3’ remote also brings some exciting safety capabilities, including real-time safety alerts. Additionally, when paired with a SwayControl-enabled EB2 or VM1, you can now easily adjust your sway sensitivity levels, or turn the feature off entirely, directly from the remote screen.

Watch the video as our founder, Craig, explains exactly how this applies to your setup and what you need to do next.

What Do You Need to Do?

Depending on how you currently control your Elecbrakes EB2 or VM1 unit, your next steps are simple:

If you only use the smartphone app:
You are all set. Once you receive the update notification, simply ensure your Elecbrakes app is updated to the latest version, connect to your EB2 or VM1 and follow the prompts to update your firmware. It only takes a few minutes.

If you use an EBR ‘V2’ remote with your EB2 or VM1:

Not planning on travelling soon? First, ensure your Elecbrakes app is updated to the latest version, connect to your EB2 or VM1, and follow the prompts to run the firmware update. Next, register for your free replacement remote (via the link below). Once we receive your old remote, it may take 7–10 working days for your new V3 model to arrive. If you do need to travel during this waiting period, you can simply use the Elecbrakes app to manage your brake controller. The app is also fully compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

– Currently travelling?
If you are currently on the road and actively using your remote, please continue using your current setup normally without running the firmware update. Your system will continue to work perfectly without any interruption. Once your travels are finished and you are ready to upgrade to the V3 remote, simply complete the registration form to start the exchange process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is happening?

As part of our commitment to continuous product improvement, reliability, and safety, we are releasing a new version of the Elecbrakes App and an over-the-air (OTA) firmware update for EB2 and VM1 brake controllers. This update introduces enhancements to the system’s wireless communication framework.

As a result of this update, existing EBR ‘V2’ remotes will no longer be compatible, and will be exchanged for an upgraded ‘V3’ EBR remote at absolutely no cost to our customers.

What do I need to do now?

If you use the smartphone app only: Simply ensure your Elecbrakes app is updated to the latest version, connect to your EB2 or VM1 and follow the prompts to update your firmware. It only takes a few minutes.

If you use a ‘V2’ remote with your EB2 or VM1:  Register for your free replacement remote at https://remoteupgrade.elecbrakes.com/

How do I install the update?

To install the update:
– The first step is to make sure you’ve downloaded the latest version of the Elecbrakes App from the App Store or Google Play.
– Once your App is updated, you’ll need to be connected to your brake controller.
– Then, open the Elecbrakes app and follow the prompts to install the firmware update.

(Note: Your existing phone connection and brake controller settings will be preserved).

Does the update or the replacement remote cost anything?

No, there is no cost to you.
The over-the-air firmware update is free, the replacement remote is free, and Elecbrakes covers all shipping costs for your new V3 remote.

What happens if I choose not to update my brake controller?

This important update should be installed as it contains important system enhancements and will become the supported firmware platform for future product updates and features.  While your brake controller will continue to operate without the update, it won’t be compatible with future enhancements, features or product support.   If you’re a remote user, simply wait until your new remote arrives before installing the update.

I am currently travelling and using a remote. What should I do?

Keep driving and enjoying your trip! Your brake controller and existing remote will continue to operate as normal, so you can complete your travels without concern.

Once you return home and are ready to start the exchange, simply register online for your free V3 replacement remote. Please do not install the over-the-air firmware update until your new remote has arrived and you are ready to pair it with your system.

Once your old remote is returned and you receive your new V3 replacement, you can update the app, safely install the firmware update, and connect your new remote.

Why will my current remote stop working after I update my EB2 or VM1 brake controller?

The new firmware introduces an enhanced wireless communication framework. Because of this change, older ‘V2’ remotes will no longer be compatible.

To avoid any disruption to your remote functionality, please register for your free remote replacement.

Can I use the Elecbrakes app on my smartphone during this process?

Yes! The Elecbrakes smartphone app remains fully functional at all times during this transition. The app is also fully compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

How do I arrange to swap my EBR remote?

– Visit https://remoteupgrade.elecbrakes.com/ and fill out the quick registration form.
– Once your registration is confirmed, we will email you a prepaid return shipping label.
– Next, simply pack up your old remote, attach the label, and drop it at any Australia Post box or branch.
– Once we receive your old remote, we will express-ship your replacement remote and email you the tracking details.

Who covers the cost of shipping?

Elecbrakes will cover 100% of the shipping costs. We will provide a prepaid label for your return and cover the Express post delivery for your new V3 remote.

Once I receive my replacement remote, what do I do next?

Now that your new V3 remote is in your hands, you can update your entire system.

– Ensure you have the latest version of the Elecbrakes app.
– Open the Elecbrakes app and connect to your EB2 or VM1 brake controller.
– Run the over-the-air firmware update, this will only take a few minutes.
